One of the first things you notice when walking about the boutiques of Locust Valley is Hunt’s Hair Styling. It’s hard not to spot the red, white, and blue barber’s pole that hangs just outside the shop on the corner of Birch Hill Road and Forest Avenue. With it’s red chairs and old time charm, Hunt’s Hair Styling, and the the nostalgia that it evokes, was embodied by Layton Hunt. Originally from North Carolina, Mr. Hunt was a Korean War veteran, and he purchased the barbershop after his service was over in the 1960s. Mr. Hunt cut and styled the hair of generations of Locust Valley locals. Full of personality and vigor, Mr. Hunt would happily chat up his clients and was always ready to give out lollipops to the children who visited his shop.
Hunt’s Hair Styling was purchased in 2020 by Brian Basile of Strong Island Styles.
Mr. Hunt was a kind soul and will be missed by many in the Locust Valley community.
