A group of high school students entered a classroom and attacked two other students while class was being taught yesterday afternoon at Locust Valley High School. Multiple videos appeared on social media showing the brazen attack by high schools juniors and sophomores on their classmates. In one video, the attackers can be seen punching one student on the ground while the other student was being attacked in his seat. The teacher looks frozen in fear and does not appear to call for help. Other students who were present in the classroom at the time of the attack seemed to remain seated, looking away out of fear.
Police were notified and responded promptly to the scene.
The BOE has sent out a letter to parents (below)
Dear Locust Valley Community,
The Board of Education has been made aware of certain alarming incidents that have occurred over the recent spring break and in school today concerning high school students. The Locust Valley School District does not tolerate acts of violence and we have a strict code of conduct that is required to be followed by students, staff and the community. The Board of Education has directed the administration to enforce the code of conduct, and if sufficient evidence exists to warrant the imposition of discipline, then appropriate disciplinary action should be taken for the protection and rights of all concerned. Having a safe and supported school environment where students feel safe and secure is our highest priority. Regards, The Locust Valley Board of Education
